Smoky Mountain Historical Society

Due to the past inclement weather and the cold temperatures for this coming weekend, the Smoky Mountain Historical Society has elected to cancel its January 21, 2024 meeting. The scheduled program will be presented at its March 17, 2024 meeting. The March meeting will be held in the Conference room (3rd floor) of the Sevier County Court House. The program will be presented after a brief business meeting commencing at 2PM. Light refreshments will be provided after the program.

Did you know that in addition to Paul Revier, a woman made a historic ride? Jane Muldoon will present a story about John and Ruth Sevier and Ruth’s historic ride.

Jane Muldoon is a local actress, historian, volunteer, and historic reenactor. Her own rich experiences and work at the John Sevier Historic Center, Marble Springs, have provided her with a depth of knowledge, some of which she will share with us in this program.

In addition, if you are not already aware of it, the annual Wilderness Wildlife Week in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee occurs next week (January 22 – 25). The event, which provides mostly free programs, offers a variety of programs. A link to the event program guide is supplied below.

SMHS members Lew Bolton and Bill Deitzer will be presenting programs. Stop by our table and visit if you attend. And if you are interested and can spare an hour or two, we could use help at the table answering questions and visiting. I’m not sure if they will have time at our table, but if you are interested in purchasing an autographed copy of their books, we can most likely arrange it.

A brief business meeting will be held prior to the program.
